Description

The Berliner Wasserbetriebe are currently implementing a programme of rehabilitation to be completed in 2020 in order to meet the standard values the Land Berlin stipulated in an official directive of the year 1998 and which refer to the discharges originating from the combined sewer system into the receiving waters.

The project SPREE2011, carried out by TU Berlin and LURI.water-systems.GmbH, pursues the strategy to generate additional storage capacities in order to collect the combined sewer overflows in Berlin’s centre. These storm overflow tanks shall be installed along the riverside, i.e. directly in front of the actual outlet to absorb the overflowing wastewater resulting from storm water events. When the storm is over, the wastewater may either be returned to the central treatment facilities or be treated on the spot. The project comprises the construction and operation of a pilot tank.

Work package 1.2., which is realised by KWB, aims at the analysis and estimation of the hydraulic and pollution load on the pilot tank and of the discharge situation (quantities, duration, frequency, peak discharges). The work is based upon the statistical evaluation of numerical long term simulations of pollution loads. The impact of the tank emptying on the existent collection system and of the integration of the stormwater tank into the general pollution control concept of Berliner Wasserbetriebe will be discussed.
