Phosphorus recovery and sewage sludge ash utilization through the innovative use of electrodialysis
The Power-to-P project is pursuing a groundbreaking goal: recovering phosphorus from sewage sludge ash in an environmentally friendly way, without relying on large quantities of chemicals such as acids or alkalis. The result is a high-quality, clean phosphate that can be used safely and sustainably in fertiliser production or directly as fertiliser.
Phosphorus: A Limited but Essential Resource
Phosphorus is a vital resource for life, yet global reserves are finite. With Power-to-P, we are making a critical contribution to resource conservation and securing future food supplies. At the same time, we are boosting environmental protection by transforming waste streams into valuable raw materials.
Advancing the Process with KWB
As part of the project, KWB is refining the phosphate precipitation process in the laboratory, tailoring it to meet the specific requirements of Germany. Additionally, we are exploring how this process can be optimally integrated into the energy transition.
Pilot Project in Berlin
A major milestone, the Power-to-P process is being tested on a larger scale at a pilot facility in Berlin. This project demonstrates how innovative technologies can be used to recover resources efficiently.
