Dear readers,
Since the last issue, our newsletter has had a new look, which seems to have gone down well with you. This success encourages us to continue developing our formats and even to experiment here and there – not for nothing are we scientists (almost all of us). Starting with this issue, our newsletters are dedicated to relevant focal points, this time: the water crisis. Of course, this is not a new topic – we have been involved in this field for a long time by conducting ambitious research and actively participating in debates.
In line with the focus on the water crisis, our Latest News section is about the reuse of reclaimed water in agriculture. In our Feature, we present our work on groundwater issues and the sustainable use of water resources under tightening conditions. And also in Research News, we present FlexTreat, a project dedicated to reuse of reclaimed water as one of many answers to the water crisis.
At the same time, with Research News on the MBR 4.0 and BaSaR projects, we show that we also develop and research innovative solutions for questions in the area of digitalisation and urbanisation, meaning that the scope of our expertise extends far beyond “pure water topics”.
The hard work and innovative ideas of our colleagues flow into all our projects. They make the KWB what it is and help it to be successful. That’s why we want to give you the opportunity to get to know the people behind the projects in the new People@KWB section. We’ll start with Elisa Rose, who is not only involved in circular economy and nutrient recovery, but also likes to glide on or in the water.
I hope you enjoy reading this issue,
Jochen Rabe
