Circular Economy

Recycling valuable materials from water and wastewater can play a decisive role in relieving pressure on our limited resources and in the sustainable development of the water sector as a whole. Biogas, nutrients, or even the water itself are possible products of the circular economy in the water and wastewater sector. We research new approaches and processes and assess their sustainability.

How can we ensure that the costs and benefits are appropriately proportional? How can we further improve the efficiency of our processes? These questions guide us in evaluating the entire product value chain. We also ensure that potential risks to people and the environment are avoided when recovering raw materials from wastewater, using scientific models to assess the safe separation of pollutants or pathogens.

Our research aims to create broad societal acceptance for a sustainable circular economy in the water sector. Thanks to our expertise, we are exploiting the potential of this promising approach.
